Crime rates in the City of Pittsburgh tend to be lower than most of those in the core cities of our benchmark regions.

In 2016, the City of Pittsburgh ranked as the second-safest city among the benchmark peers with a low overall crime rate of 4045.1 per 100,000 population. Violent crime in the region was the fourth-lowest and property crime was the second-lowest among benchmark peers.

More specifically, Pittsburgh experienced the lowest rate of forcible rape among all benchmark cities in 2016.
