Breast Cancer Mortality Rates

Unfortunately, the breast cancer mortality rates in the Pittsburgh region are higher for both white women than for the rest of the US or for the benchmark areas. In our region, the breast cancer mortality for white women in 2006, the last year for which data are available, was 24.8 per 100,000, as compared to the benchmark average of 23.5 and the national average of 22.9. For black women, the Pittsburgh MSA mortality rate for breast cancer was 27.2 as compared to the benchmark average of 32.3 and the national average of 31.7.
