The Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (LEED), provides standards for environmentally sustainable design, construction and operation of buildings and neighborhoods. The five indicators here have been organized in cooperation with the Pittsburgh Green Building Alliance.

LEED was created to define “Green Building” by establishing standards; Promote “integrated, whole building design practices;” Recognize environmental leadership in the building industry; Raise public awareness; Stimulate green competition; Transform the building market.
