Although Pittsburgh has trailed benchmark regions in average annual pay for many years, that gap is slowly narrowing. Average annual pay increased by 1.8 percent between 2012 and 2013, 2.8 percent between 2013 and 2014 and 4 percent between 2014 and 2015.

However, Pittsburgh’s average annual pay between 2015 and 2016 decreased 0.4 percent from $53,001 to $52,788. Pittsburgh was the only region to experience a decline in average annual pay among the benchmark regions.
