Number of Arts Establishments per 100K

The number of arts and cultural establishments per 100,000 residents in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area increased from 13.7 in 2014 to 14.29 in 2015. The 2015 total was slightly below the benchmark average of 17.31.

Compared to the benchmark regions, Pittsburgh had the highest number of other performing arts establishments per 100,000 residents (0.34) and the second-highest number of museums per 100,000 residents (1.62).

Conversely, Pittsburgh had the second-lowest number of independent artists, writers and performers per 100,000 residents (2.76) and the third-lowest number of art dealers per 100,000 residents (0.89) when compared to the benchmark regions.

The total count in the data below is the sum of the following types of establishments: theaters, dance companies, musical groups and artists, other performing arts, museums, historical sites, zoos and botanical gardens, nature parks, fine arts schools, independent artists, writers and performers, art dealers. These data are from the U.S. Census Bureau’s County Business Patterns and are updated annually.
